OVERVIEW
The incomparable Rio Gallegos meanders more than 360km through desolate pampa wastelands before if finally merges into the raging atlantic ocean close to the straight of magellan. In it’s ineffable beauty a journey worth itself, it becomes the cynosure of dedicated fly anglers world wide as soon as the winter ice melts to expose the rivers so sought after searun browntrout. While their sheer size of up to 30lb+ leaves anglers and spectators alike awestruck, it’s their raging temper beyond compare that feeds the addiction of getting connected to these fish. Solid Adventures Las Buitreras lodge is home to the most prolific beats on the Rio Gallegos, consisting of over 40 kms of both sides private water comprising over 50 named pools!
“After 12 seasons of running our Solid Adventures camp at Las Buitreras one thing is very clear to us: using light tackle like a single-hand rod or light double-hand rod while keeping wading to a minimum will catch you more fish! It’s as simple as that! The fish are there, but splashing a long two-hand line on the surface will not do you any favors. This fishing is as technical as it gets, but at the same time it is also very easy! You don’t have to be the best caster in the world to catch fish. You only need to keep it quiet and controlled. As long as you keep contact with and keep moving the fly, wade as little as possible and perhaps even listen to the guides you will have great chances of success! The biggest fish ever caught in Rio Gallegos, a fresh 31 lbs silver torpedo, was landed last season by Annacarin Sjöberg, using a 12 foot 7 weight double hand rod fishing a narrow section of the river only requiring 10-15 meter casts. Since our private stretch of water is so big and number of rods limited we can put our guests on rested water every session. Even better there are still after 13 seasons much water still to be properly tested. Not many destinations in the world can compete with that! New local fishing regulations focusing on protecting the fish has really made a difference in the number and size of the fish coming up the river the last couple of seasons. As far as the Lodge goes Estancia Las Buitreras is truly in a class of its own! The quality of food, drinks, comfort and setting is nothing but world class and our friendly staff is always there to assist.
To put it in short Las Buitreras is one of those places you keep coming back to, year after year after year!”
