Week 23 full report Latest news from Steffen Juhl and Mark Leander, from Grand Varzuga!
It seems like our guests on The Grand Varzuga experienced the true meaning of summer fishing for Salmon!
The air temperature is about 23C. And below the surface its about 19C. The water level is extremely low, but it did not prevent our guests from having some great salmon fishing!
The tactics have been floating lines, and stripping flies. Cascade, Micro Tubes, Monkey Flies, smaller Sunrays and Red Butt have been the favourite flies. A change in tactics by Franco Sitori, who switched to bomber files had great success!
The Total amount of fish from last week was 136 salmon caught. Not only Grilse but a decent amount larger fish as you see in the report below:
- 4 – 7 Lbs. 40 Salmon
- 8 – 11 Lbs. 65 Salmon
- 12 – 15 Lbs 24 Salmon
- 16 – 19 Lbs. Salmon
Also a nice 20lbs Salmon to Jan Tryk from Denmark! Another couple of highlights was Paul Walters who caught a beautiful 18lbs fish and David Stocker who caught his first atlantic salmon!

Great end of the week as Lars Fournaise from denmark hooked the last Salmon which jumped 8 – 10 times during the fight – Perfect!
Grand Varzuga is a pearl! Despite dificult conditions this is a proof that this river still can produce a nice amount of catches!
