I just got back from Grand Varzuga where Steffen and I have been working hard to fix the camp for the coming season. We have installed new verandas on all cabins, lots of painting all over, cleaning the whole place, guide & kitchen training, fixing boats, etc. During that time the river has dropped significantly – still dropping – and now water temperature is at 10C which is perfect. During my stay we only managed to fish 2 hours while setting up “Lunch Pool” and it produced fish.
Everything is perfect now and we cannot complain, now we are waiting for the BIG Varzuga train which have already passed – still passing – Lower Varzuga and Middle Varzuga where they have had fabulous fishing. 1,345 salmon were landed to 12 rods in Middle Varzuga which must be the highest number of fish ever caught there. Are we looking at a record season, all together? Pana is producing fish now with the first team, not entirely as expected, 6 fish the first day (arrived Saturday), and quite a long way downstream.
We will focus 100% on the lower parts of Grand Varzuga the first week and perhaps second week.
Now, it is just a question of when the main body of fish will arrive in Grand Varzuga. The first group landed yesterday (Sunday) and I cant wait to hear the reports, should be coming in anytime soon.
Stay tuned for more…:)
