Good news from Umba! I just had a text message come in from Steffen in Umba, who was doing a little test fishing yesterday after having set up the camp. He and Kåre went up to lovely Krivetz and were in to some nice fish immediately. The first one was caught in Golden Run, a 15 pounder. Next one in Nick’s Pool by Steffen – 14 pounds. Then Steffen had another one in Junction Pool over 20 pounds. Nice fish! Finally Kåre also caught one in Junction Pool – 12 pounds. Weather was cloudy, but mild. The water level is quite low, like early July. Spring is two weeks early this year in southern Kola, everything is very green. Fishing is already optimal with floating lines and sinking tips – ‘light’ surface tackle for big salmon; what more can you wish for? :O) Looks promising for Umba this spring – the guys have spotted a lot of fish in Home Pool.
I will be taking care of the newsletters on the website for the next two weeks until I head up there and into the wild myself. Needles to say that the waiting time, while ‘processing’ such news as above, is damn hard! Can’t wait to see you out there guys.
Very latest news this morning from Steffen – fishing is still excellent – in a few hours fishing in Home Pool nine salmon were landed!
