Just talked to Kåre Lundquist on a crackling sattelite phone connection from the Acha Camp in Ponoi… The tally yesterday evening was 72 salmon for 6 rods. The weather has been quite nasty as a low pressure system swept over the Ponoi area during the last few days. Storm-like conditions with strong winds and rain was the order of the day. But now the weather has improved again and both water and air temperatures are around 14 degrees Celsius. Best flies at the moment are still the Green Highlander, the Mediator (green body), and the good old Hairy Mairy has all of a sudden emerged from the depths of fly boxes and once again proven its efficiency! Sizes of the fish are still quite good on average; lots of 8-10-12-14-15-17 pounders. Kåre lost a whopper down on beat 4 – fresh run summer fish, you don’t mess around with those!
Stay tuned for some more Ponoi action…
